SCHOOL LIFE

At The British School of Almeria, learning is central to all our activities. Every decision we make is based on maximising the educational possibilities of each of our students.

Learning is about continual progress: improving every day. We recognise the importance of identifying the specific needs of each individual learner, giving them all the support they need to become astonished by their own achievements.

Effective learning depends on creating a wide range of experiences which not only promote the acquisition of new knowledge but also provide our students with the opportunity to apply these new skills to real life situations. At The British School of Almeria our creative and challenging curriculum allows us to offer innovative and interesting lessons that inspire our students to be independent and to continue their learning outside the classroom.

At our school, learning is never confined to the classroom. Our English immersion policy allows our students to improve their English language skills throughout the school day. We also offer a wide and varied programme of school activities which helps our students to discover their own strengths, talents and passions.

At The British School of Almeria, the personal and social development of our students is an integral part of their learning. We encourage our pupils to share our positive values whilst maintaining and celebrating their own individuality. In this way we help them to become confident and responsible learners for the rest of their lives.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES

At The British School of Almeria, we offer our students the opportunity to live experiences abroad and multicultural exchanges as part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), one of the largest educational groups in the world, with 47 schools and a presence in 13 countries.

VALIDATION IN THE SPANISH SYSTEM

In addition to following the British Curriculum, our pupils are also required to meet the requirements of the Education System here in Andalusia. Therefore, throughout their school career, our Spanish Department ensure that they successfully cover all the key learning objectives of the Spanish curriculum through the subjects of “Lengua” and “Sociales”. The crucial task is to ensure the process of obtaining Spanish accreditation of their studies in Spain runs smoothly. Until Year 11 (4 ESO), the validation is automatic. During the last three years it is dependent upon a combination of the students’ results in their British examinations and their compulsory Spanish subjects.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT

Every pupil at our school has the support of their teacher or tutor, who will be happy to help with any personal, social or academic issues they may have. In addition to individual help which is provided daily within each classroom, our SEND department work together to coordinate a programme of support for those pupils who may need a little extra help. Our “Inspiring Minds” programme also includes a wide range of challenging and enjoyable activities to pupils who would like to extend their learning even further, trying different activities and developing new skills.

ACCESS TO SPANISH AND FOREIGN UNIVERSITY

We are part of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS), our British curriculum is fully compatible and comparable with the Spanish curriculum. In Year 12 and Year 13 (16-18 years) students dedicate most of their time to their A Level courses, which are highly prestigious and internationally recognised examinations. Our students have the freedom to choose to continue their education at universities in Spain, in the United Kingdom or indeed, at any university in the world.
