Admission Policy

Admission Process

Our doors in the Admissions department remain open throughout the year, looking forward to the opportunity to welcome you into our school community, regardless of the season.

The admissions process follows a structured approach to ensure a smooth transition for your child into our educational environment:

1. Contact us

Please reach out to us to schedule a visit to our school or to arrange a virtual call, especially if you are currently abroad.

2. School Tour/Virtual Call

This stage provides us with the chance to meet you and your child, allowing a deeper understanding of your child’s needs and interests. We will delve into our curriculum and show you our facilities, providing you with a glimpse into our amazing learning environment.

3. Assessment/Taster Day

We may request your child’s previous school report (if applicable) and organize placement tests if necessary. Furthermore, we may invite your child to a taster day at our school, allowing them to immerse themselves in our community.

4. Acceptance

Upon successfully completing the assessment process, you will receive an offer in writing, giving you a fixed period (between 5 to 10 days), during which we will reserve a place for your child as you proceed with the registration process.

5. Enrolment

Congratulations! Your family is now part of our School Community.

Admissions policy

FOUNDATION / INFANTIL

There are no prerequisites for a child applying for a place at Foundation.

If a child has special needs, the SEN Department (Special Educational Needs Department) will be involved in the admissions process to ensure that The British School of Almeria can provide the support required. If the school does not have adequate resources to meet the needs, the family will be informed and we will recommend alternatives.

PRIMARY / PRIMARIA

The British School of Almeria will require school reports from the previous 2 years when applying for a place in Primary Education.

From Year 1 onwards, children will be invited to spend a Taster Day at The British School of Almeria. During the day, the child will take an English test, and participate in all the usual activities. The tutor and the Primary Co-ordinator will send their observations to the Admissions Department within 48 hours.

If the child is unable to attend, a set of English and Maths tests can be sent to their current school so that they can take them there.

Children who are offered a place at The British School of Almeria on a conditional basis will be recommended for additional support in English.

An unconditional offer will be made if the child is proficient in English. If the child is not proficient in English, but is performing at or above average in all other subjects, they will receive a conditional offer.

The Heads of the English and Mathematics Departments, as well as the teachers and the Secondary Coordinator, will communicate their observations to the Admissions Department.

If the student is proficient in English, an unconditional offer will be made. If the student is not proficient in English, but his or her transcript shows that he or she has passed the core subjects and most of the other subjects, a conditional offer will be made.

Secondary students who are offered a place at The British School of Almeria on a conditional basis must follow the recommendations for additional support in English.
