CURRICULUM

The British curriculum is widely recognised worldwide for its structure and practical approach. This curriculum focuses on preparing students for entry to the best universities in the world and for a successful professional future.

At The British School of Almeria, learning is central to all our activities. Every decision we make is based on maximising the educational opportunities for each of our students.

Learning is about continual progress: improving every day. We recognise the importance of identifying the specific needs of each individual learner, giving them all the support they need to become astonished by their own achievements.

Effective learning depends on creating a wide range of experiences which not only promote the acquisition of new knowledge but also provide our students with the opportunity to apply these new skills to real life situations. At The British School of Almeria our creative and challenging curriculum allows us to offer innovative and interesting lessons that inspire our students to be independent and to continue their learning outside the classroom.

At our school, learning is never confined to the classroom. Our English immersion policy allows our students to improve their English language skills throughout the school day. We also offer a wide and varied programme of school activities which helps our students to discover their own strengths, talents and passions.

At The British School of Almeria, the personal and social development of our students is an integral part of their learning. We encourage our pupils to share our positive values while maintaining and celebrating their own individuality. In this way, we help them to become confident and responsible learners for the rest of their lives.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES

At The British School of Almeria, we offer our students the opportunity to live experiences abroad and multicultural exchanges as part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), one of the largest educational groups in the world, with 47 schools and presence in 13 countries.

VALIDATION IN THE SPANISH SYSTEM

As well as following the British curriculum, our students must meet the requirements of the Andalusian education system. Therefore, during their years of schooling, our Spanish Department ensures that they successfully achieve the objectives of the Spanish curriculum with the subjects of Language and Social Studies.

PERSONALISED SUPPORT

Each student has the support of their teacher or tutor, who will be happy to help with any personal, social or academic issues they may have. In addition, every day in each classroom our SEND department works together to coordinate an effective programme of support for pupils who may need extra help. Our Inspiring Minds programme includes a wide variety of challenging and fun activities for students who wish to extend their learning, try different activities and develop new skills.

ACCESS TO SPANISH AND FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES

We are part of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS). Our British curriculum is fully compatible and comparable with the Spanish curriculum. In Year 12 and Year 13 (16-18 years) students spend almost all their time preparing for A Levels. Our students can choose to continue their education at universities in Spain, the UK or anywhere in the world.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE BRITISH & SPANISH CURRICULUM

  • Focus on practical learning: The British curriculum encourages the practical application of knowledge, whereas the Spanish curriculum tends to focus on theoretical memorisation.
  • Flexibility: In the British system, students choose subjects at advanced stages according to their interests and objectives, whereas the Spanish system has a more rigid approach.
  • International examinations: British students prepare for globally recognised qualifications (IGCSE and A-Level), which opens doors to universities around the world.
  • Teaching in English: The language of instruction is English, ensuring advanced fluency and proficiency.
  • Focus on personal development: British education prioritises critical thinking, creativity and soft skills, essential in the modern world of work.

At The British School of Almeria our mission is to prepare students for a globalised world, providing them with the tools necessary to excel academically and personally. Our commitment to educational excellence and personal attention ensures that each student reaches their full potential.
